White metal roofing can be converted to a cool roof with a ten year warranty against leakage. For this church membership, there were two benefits:
1. Annoying leaks were resolved
2. White surface meant cool roofing surface
On hot days, most roofing systems of any color are warm or hot to the touch. Cool roofs remain tolerable enough to sit on. Common sense dictates that this reflection of the heat can only help make the interior less uncomfortable during a heat wave.
Standing seam metal roof converted to a cool roof
On this project, the crew cleaned and primed the standing seam metal panels. Once the prepping was completed, they started the fully reinforced step...the most important part of the project
Crew members coated acrylic in the work area for the stitchbond mesh to be embedded. Once the mesh was placed and smoothed appropriately, the crew brushed in another basecoat. After years of working with mesh and acrylic, this crew makes this fully reinforced step look easy; actually it is quite difficult to find workers who can handle this technique.

Details of cool roof
Base work is completed around the inside gutter and parapets on each end. This project had a good inside gutter system, so this type of cool roof work extends the life of a gutter. .

Cool roofing completed on metal standing seam panels
The top coats of white acrylic add the final 20 mils to the reinforced system of cool roofing. Around the chimney, old flashings were encapsulated to prevent leakage. Trash was removed from the site and the final coating of the white acrylic is completed.
