Ages to patina, protects against leaks and costs less

Is copper roofing too expensive? But you really like the special finish of this metal. Consider an alternative to sheets of copper..a liquid copper coating designed for roofing.   Over time the coating surface ages to patina green, just like copper sheets. The copper liquid coating can weatherproof your roof against leaks.  And if you want to retain the initial bright copper finish, that result is possible too.

When your copper liquid coating is embedded with fabric reinforcement, this system weatherproofs a roof against leaking. When install with this reinforced system, a ten-year warranty against leakage is included.  The fabric adds integrity to the coating, like any of the strong roof coating products.

Any application of copper liquid begins with the bright finish. Within a few months, the appearance begins to darken. Finally, like copper sheets, the patina tint takes many years to appear, but eventually a patina will emerge.

If you want to stop the aging process and keep the initial bright finish, that alternative is also available. The secret is to apply a clearcoat that will prevent the air from reacting with the copper alloy flakes in the coating. OR if you want to accelerate the aging process, an acidic wash can be applied, resulting in the patina appearing sooner.

A liquid copper roof project

From New York through North Carolina, we apply this innovative alternative to copper sheets. The crew has over 25 years experience working with liquid applied roofing styles. When this product first appeared, copper liquid coating established itself as a niche in our roof restoration alternatives

In the photos below, the existing copper roof had been damaged during a winter season by a determine ice picker. This attempt to remove ice and snow damaged the roof panels so that interior leaking occurred.  Also some of the fasteners were loose due to the extreme temperature changes.

Emergency repairs helped for a while, but the owner wanted a long-term solution.

After applied to surfaces, the Copper Liquid
 weathers to a patina green,
to an appearance like  the Statue of Liberty.
Alternatively, the application can be sealed
with a Clear Coat urethane to retain
the original luster of brand new copper, such as shown above.

The crew "painted"
the metal flashing that
tied the roof into the stone wall.

the restoration is only partially
completed: Clearly seen
is an indentation due to a glove test,
an easy method to test the degree
of curing. Notice that the vertical seam,
a distinctive mark of
vintage paneling, is still visible.

There are three finishes available:
Copper--aging to patina green;
Copper--protected from aging;
Copper--with aggregate added
