Red tin roofs are the most traditional of all the colors. In the early days, linseed oil was applied to protect the tin. The coating usually lasted only a few years. Then when the rust started to appear, the linseed oil's reddish appearance muted the rust spots.
Modern coatings have duplicated the tint of olden days. Now the Barn Red and rusty red versions also assist in preventing leaks, particularly when used with mesh.
